Formed on site in 5-inch and 6-inch profiles, so the only joints are at the corners and outlets. Fewer seams, fewer places to leak. Six-inch moves noticeably more water — worth it on long roof runs and steep pitches.
Keeps leaves, needles and shingle grit out of the trough so water keeps moving. The point is not to never clean again — it is that a clogged gutter in November becomes an ice dam in January.
When melt refreezes at the eave, water backs up under the shingles and finds the ceiling. Removal is the urgent fix; drainage and airflow are what stop it coming back.
